Born on the Island of Dominica (
Estern Caribbean ), Ibis Lawrence grew up listening to a wide
variety of music such as soul, negro spiritual, funk, reggae,
calypso, merengue and list goes on. In the Us Virgin Islands, he
attended Jr High and High school and learned to play guitar,
keyboards and percussions. Back to Dominica he began to perform with
local bands and met BANKIE BANX a renown musician and singer from
Anguilla and toured with him throughout Europe, Caribbean and also
performed at the Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica.
Eventually, he moved to France and joined the worldwide known
African artist ALPHA BLONDY, as keyboard player and later as band
leader. Participating in arrangements and artistic direction on
several ALPHA’s albums, he also toured most of the world with him.
These days, he’s very much demanded for his skills in producing,
arranging and remixing and worked with a lot of renown group and
artist in the hip-hop, zouk, calypso and reggae.
His First album ‘’Earth Citizen’’
released in the early 90’s is a sel-produced collection of songs.
The second one ‘’Island Lover’’ joyfully mixes hip-hop raga, funk,
classical and reggae, to vehicle strong social comments and messages
of love in a sentimental transcontinental manner.
The third Album ‘’It’s alright’’ to
be released year 2001, is a perfect introduction for this new
millennium, when peace, love and happiness are in danger, he keeps
positive vibrations for a brand new world.
